In 2009 I rode my Suzuki DRZ400 from Cincinnati to Prudhoe Bay,Inuvik North West Territories, then to Key West Florida. It was about 12,000 miles.
This is where the Alaska Highway starts,in Dawson Creek,British Columbia.
I was close to the Alaska Pipeline frequently.
I rode the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay. It is the only road that goes there. When I got to the Arctic Circle,it was over 90 degrees.
By the time I got to Prudhoe Bay it started snowing a little with some strong winds. It was so cold,my fingers had a hard time putting my tent up. I had to tie my tent to the motorcycle to keep it from blowing away.
Finally,I get to stand in the Arctic Ocean.
Prudhoe Bay is restricted land. The only way you can get there is on a tour bus. This is where the tour starts.
After my short night of sleep and touring Prudhoe Bay,I started back towards Fairbanks (500 miles). When I had gone about 300 miles,I had to stop and rest. I set up my tent by a creek near the town of Wiseman. A couple hours later I rode on to Fairbanks.
I camped in Chicken, Alaska on my way to Inuvik,NWT.
I took a free ferry across the Yukon River to Dawson,Yukon Territory.
I found a campground in Inuvik. Inuvik is as far as the road goes north in th North West Territory.
Then i was just 6000 miles from Key West,Florida. But I stopped at home on my way. Gayle said she wanted to do something-Route 66. So we did 6000 miles on the Harley before I rode on to Key West.
On the way home,we stopped on Marathon Key and flew in an old Waco biplane.
